本单元是在学习和掌握句型look at…和it is …and…的基础上围绕课题in the circus开展活动和练习，将话题和功能紧密结合。
本课通过look and say引入话题，学习新的语言。通过控制性练习，为学生提供练习活动；通过游戏活动，为学生提供在真实语言。通过控制性练习，为学生提供练习活动；通过游戏活动，为学生提供在真实语言环境中运用语言的机会。各步骤环环紧扣，在语言功能和交际功能之间建立一种联系，使学生的学习循序渐进，逐步提高。
在本单元的教学中，老师很注重利用信息共享的交流活动。例如教案中的词汇扩展，就是学生与学生之间，教师与学生之间的信息共享活动。改变了过去“教”与“学”被动机械的方式。学生主动积极地参与学习过程，而教师的主要任务是创造条件鼓励学生参与活动。
