whether和if的区别

whether和if都可以引导名词性从句。

名词性从句包括：主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句。

区别：

1. if——只能引导主语从句和宾语从句

2. whether——四个从句都可以引导，但从句中有or not 必须用whether引导

Whether they can finish the work on time is a problem.

=It is still a problem if/whether they can finish the work on time.

他们能不能按时完成工作还是个问题。

(if 引导的宾语从句只能使用形式主语结构，不能直接放到主语的位置。)

I have no idea whether he is from America.

我不知道他是否来自美国

My problem is whether he is from America.

( 同位语从句和表语从句不能用if引导，只能用whether。)

在宾语从句中的区别

及物动词后的宾语从句whether、if都可以引导。

I wonder whether/ if he tells the truth.

我怀疑他是否说出事实。

We talk about whether the answer is correct.

我们在讨论答案是否正确。

（ 介词后边的宾语从句必须用whether, 不能用if。）

I cannot decide whether to stay.

我还没决定是否留下来

（与不定式连用: 只能用whether 不能用if ）

I have no idea of whether he is from America.

I have no idea whether he is from America.
